Brevity, journal of nonfiction

The Fall 2006 issue of BREVITY, the journal of concise literary nonfiction, is now open for recreational swimming.

In Brevity 22, Lisa Kahn Schnell, Jillian Schedneck, Michele Valois, Sheyene Foster Heller, Fleda Brown, Rita Ciresi, Brian Arundel, Rachael Pridgeon, Patrick Rosal, and Rebecca Housel briefly explore circles, confession, heat, sausage, cancer, hot baths, teaching errors, tangos, things that are lost, and the electrodynamics of loving older men.

Description
The Paul Zindel First Novel Award is available to individuals 18 years or older who are legal residents of the 50 states and Washington D.C. You must submit an original work of fiction that is between 100 and 240 typewritten pages and is appropriate for an audience of children ages 8 to 12. You must not have any published works in existence to be eligible for this award. The winner of this contest will win a book contract and a $1500 cash prize.

Description
The Virtual Poetry Slam Scholarship Contest is available to students who are poets, artists and activists and are interested in creating a performance poetry piece focused on the environment. You must creatively explore some connections between the environment and social justice to show how environmental issues impact you and your community. Poems must be submitted in digital video format (Windows Media or Quicktime compatible) and should be sized no larger than 550w X 400h. Poems must run under two minutes and the video file size must be below eight Megs.
